Robert “Bob” Hickson Jr. of Sag Harbor died August 29 at Southampton Hospital. The owner and manager of several Hamptons clubs and restaurants over the years, he was 61.
Born in Queens, he spent summers in Noyac starting in 1960. In 1971, following his service in the U.S. Army as a senior military intelligence coordinator during the Vietnam War, he took up full-time residence in Sag Harbor. That same year, he purchased his first bar “The Black Buoy” from Jim Black. Over the next 29 years, Mr. Hickson owned and managed Megan’s, The Post House, Barrister’s, The Mad Hatter, and Laffs Comedy Club in Hampton Bays. He become fast friends with many performers at his club, including Jerry Seinfeld, Robert Klein, Henny Youngman and more.
He is survived by two sons, Robert “Spencer” Hickson and Keith Hickson.
Visitation was on September 2 at the R.J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 3, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Smithtown Cemetery in Smithtown.
