The Women’s Art Center of the Hamptons (WACH) will host an artist conversation with Carolyn Conrad and Kerry Sharkey-Miller on Sunday, March 23, at 1 p.m. The discussion accompanies “Shades of Winter,” WACH’s current exhibition which is on view through March 30.

Moderated by Wendy Van Deusen, WACH’s director, the conversation will offer an engaging exploration of the artists’ work, creative practices, inspirations and future directions.

Carolyn Conrad, a mixed-media artist, draws inspiration from the diverse papers she collects, using them as the foundation for layered works incorporating various materials and techniques.

“The presentation of the ‘objects’ is part of the conversation,” notes Conrad. “Framing the work either as single pieces, diptychs, or triptychs in deep boxes relates to vitrines, bookcases, or showcases and are to be viewed under glass as specimens — like old or new documents — preserved in and for history. This is my way to archive my line drawings, a contemporary writing language.”

Kerry Sharkey-Miller’s work invites viewers to see the natural world in a new light — literally. While trees and landscapes often serve as quiet backdrops, she brings their beauty and graceful structure to the forefront, illuminating their quiet majesty.

A Q&A will follow the talk, accompanied by refreshments. The event will take place at WACH, 2418 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton.
