A Film Screening With Waterbod and LEYLA at Folly Tree Arboretum

authorStaff Writer on Aug 9, 2024

Folly Tree Arboretum in East Hampton will host two evenings of rapturous ecological spectacle provided by a first time collaboration between filmmaker Aron Sanchez-Baranda (also known as Waterbod) and the musical duo LEYA, Marilu Donovan and Adam Markiewicz. The outdoor live scored screening will be performed for two nights only — Friday and Saturday, August 16 and 17 from 8 to 9 p.m.

Aron Sanchez-Baranda documents the declining wildlife and fungi found on the California coast. Expressed primarily in video and photography, his art explores sensory abstraction and unconscious response to natural forms. He has created works for musicians such as Arca and Kingston Family Singers as well as adverts for Apple computers. His recent solo exhibition, Membrana, was shown at the Venice Biennale in Italy. He is currently based in Los Angeles.

The beguiling music of LEYA, which has released a steady volume of work in recent years, occupies a space between many worlds, mixing medieval sensibilities with modern folk, classical and pop. Harpist Marilu Donovan uses a unique tuning system while violinist/vocalist Adam Markiewicz blends operatic vocals in multiple languages with warm string tones.

Tickets for the screening is $23 at follytreearboretum.com. Folly Tree Arboretum is located at 741 Springs Fireplace Road in the East Hampton hamlet of Springs.
