Artist and “daily painter” Aubrey Grainger was the inspiration behind the work of 18 East End creative-types who will exhibit their paintings, photographs and drawings for the fifth year in a row at the Gallery at Water Mill Museum.

Calling themselves the 30Squared Group, the fifth annual art show and sale runs Thursday, September 12, through Sunday, September 22, at the gallery with an opening reception and meet the artists event on Saturday, September 14, from 5 to 7 p.m.

When Grainger inspired the community of artists to “paint daily” a few years ago, her motivation was simple.

“I kept running into my friends and when I asked them what they were doing, they complained they just weren’t painting or creating,” recalled Grainger. “I told them, grab a cup and saucer out of your cabinet, shine a light on it and paint it.”

Her enthusiasm gained traction, building over time into the active art community known as 30Squared, a group of several dozen artists who support and inspire each other all year long.

At first, the premise was to paint every day for 30 days — hence the moniker, “30 Squared.” But, today, this group is actively creating — perhaps not every day, but on a regular basis — and keeping each other enthused about the creative process. The participating artists are: Mary Anne Bennett, Kitty Brumberg, Susan DAlessio, Patricia Feiler, Gail Gallagher, Pat Hadley, Cyndi Loewen, Ann Lombardo, Anthony Lombardo, Jean Mahoney, Kathy ODell, MaryAnne Renz, Eileen Dawn Skretch, James Slezak, Pamela Thomson, Maureen Travers, and Pam Vossen.

The Gallery at Water Mill Museum is at 41 Old Mill Road, Water Mill. Open hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Tuesday and Wednesday). Call 631-726-4625 for more information.
