A Night With 'The She Wolves' at LongHouse Reserve

authorStaff Writer on Jul 29, 2024

“The She Wolves,” a timely fairy tale salvaging Shakespeare’s women, will be performed in the outdoor amphitheater at LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton from Thursday, August 8, to Sunday, August 11, at 7:30 p.m.

The new work by Kate Mueth, founder of the East End-based Neo-Political Cowgirls, tells the story of a handful of Shakespeare’s unsatisfied female characters conjured by the spirit of Sycorax who is holding a competition to find her replacement before she shoves off for another realm.

Only one woman can claim the title to have the chance to finish her story and reach her full potential. With the help of audience participation, a She-Wolf is crowned. But what is to happen to the others? A fairy tale for our times, “The She-Wolves” mixes dance, music, Shakespearean text and wild, Jungian-inspired story. This is not your average theater experience.

In addition to Mueth, production credits include script consultant Emma Tattenbaum-Fine, costumes by Yuka Silvera and Sarah Azzara, choreography by Kate Mueth, Vanessa Walters, and Violet Spann, lighting by Jason Amis, set design by Karyn Mannix, projections by Nina Rayburn Dec, sound consultant David Brandenburg.

There will be limited LongHouse seating available, so bring a blanket, a picnic and your howl. Tickets start at $35 ($20 students) at npcowgirls.org. LongHouse Reserve is at 133 Hands Creek Road in East Hampton.
