Shelby “Skip” Raebeck’s two-act dramatic monologue, “Fremont's Farewell” will be performed by actor Gerard Doyle at John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor on Friday, March 6, at 5:30 p.m.

The theatrical piece tells the story of a renegade high school English teacher at a posh Hamptons private school who is placed on probation for “breaking down the time-honored boundary between student and teacher.” In his final days, Ronald Fremont challenges his students to think for themselves, confesses his own shortcomings, and rails in profanity-laced diatribes against convention.

Fast forward several years later when, after a stint at a psychiatric institute, Fremont publishes a best-selling memoir and is invited back to Hampton Country Day to deliver the commencement address. Once again addressing an audience, Fremont recounts his Lear-like descent into madness and the lifeline extended to him by a former student — until the ceremony takes an unexpected turn.

“Fremont’s Farewell” is free, but reservations are suggested at 631-725-0049. The John Jermain Memorial Library is at 201 Main Street, Sag Harbor.
