Three years after a well-received exhibition during Southampton Arts Center’s inaugural season, the work of New Yorker and “Addams Family” cartoonist Chas Addams has returned to Southampton Village.Mounted in partnership with the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation, the exhibition features more than 50 original works by the late artist who had a home in Sagaponack, plus cartoons that children made during the summer’s Charles Addams Festival at the Bridgehampton Museum.
The public opening reception will take place at the arts center on Saturday, September 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. and the exhibition will remain on view Thursdays to Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. through October 31.
Additional events planned in conjunction with the exhibition include a cartooning workshop and a screening of director Barry Sonnenfeld’s 1991 film based on Mr. Addams’s characters.
Led by Peter Spacek, the Pen and Ink Cartooning Techniques Made Easy workshop will be held at the arts center for five consecutive Saturdays, starting October 1, from 10 a.m. to noon. Students will present their work at noon on Saturday, October 29. The workshop is for ages 8 and older and the cost is $220, including materials.
The 25th anniversary screening of “The Addams Family,” starring Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, Christina Ricci and Christopher Lloyd, will be Sunday, October 9, at 7 p.m. Guests are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite characters, and a prize will be awarded for the best costume.
