Romany Kramoris Gallery will present the works of local artists Adriana Barone and Barbara Groot, from July 6 through July 27. A reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, July 8, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Adriana Barone is a graduate of Pratt Institute with a major in fine art and a minor in art history. In 1994, Barone moved to Sag Harbor from the New York City when she changed careers from art directing to energy healing. In addition to her healing practice, she spends massive amounts of time art making.
“Today I am consumed with the challenge of the canvas … the challenge of bringing spontaneity, freedom and life force to my work by combining intuitive mark making, imagery, humor and a healthy dose of frustration and futility,” said Barone. “I paint to paint, and I relish the breakthroughs when they happen and I sit in the struggle sometimes impatiently, sometimes hopeful that this too shall pass.”
Barbara Groot grew up in Southern California with the sun and light illuminating the landscape. Now living and working in East Hampton, she finds the light on the East End equally special and energizing.
“This energy has charged and influenced the work plus my ongoing desire to reinvent the immediacy of the ever-changing moments in nature,” said Groot. “The paintings contain active and bold brushwork to pursue the energy felt in our natural world. A strong, personal and inventive layered use of color gives these paintings a fresh, lush and sometimes surprising view into the world around us. The use of linear elements further vitalizes the brushwork.”
