East End Jazz, in collaboration with the Southampton Cultural Center, will present the next installment of its free monthly community series, the “East Meets West Jazz Jam Session,” on Sunday, November 2, from 2 to 5 p.m.

The November event will kick off with a 35-minute performance by Real East End Brass (REEB!), a high-energy, New Orleans-style brass band made up of East End musicians and educators. Known for blending jazz, funk and pop, REEB! brings a spirited, crowd-pleasing style to every show.

Following the featured performance, the stage will open for a jazz jam session. Musicians of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate, along with vocalists, jazz enthusiasts, families and community members.

“We had all generations participating in the jazz jam session — from 14 years old to almost 80 years old,” said Iris Ornig, bassist, composer and director of East End Jazz. “The audience was dancing to swing tunes, and all in all, everybody had a good time. East End Jazz is encouraging the youth to step out and join the pros.

“We are dedicated to featuring and highlighting the youth,” she added. “I realized how important it is to give them a platform to grow through music — being on stage, being a bandleader and giving something to the community.”

The “East Meets West Jazz Jam Session” is free and open to the public. Southampton Cultural Center is at 25 Pond Lane, Southampton. No registration is required to attend. To sign up to play or for more information, email eastendjazzny@gmail.com.
