On Sunday, August 21, at 3:30 p.m., the Montauk Library hosts “An Inventory of Dante’s Monsters,” a free theatrical performance with masks presented by Teatrino Giullare and guest artists Giulia dall’Ongaro and Enrico Deotti. The performance highlights mythological beings imagined by the great poet Dante Aligheri and described in his masterpiece, “The Divine Comedy.” These intimidating creatures are the guardians and tormentors he meets in the Inferno: Geryon, Pluto, Caco, Minos, and Cerberus as well as Centaurs, Harpies, Giants and more.
This performance was created by Teatrino Giullare with the support of the Municipality of Imola (Italy) in commemoration of the 700th anniversary of Dante’s death. The show is offered in English and is suitable for adults and children ages 5 and up.
Founded by Giulia Dall’Ongaro and Enrico Deotti, actors and directors, Teatrino Giullare performs original theatre pieces with a strong visual impact using puppetry and masks to combine “artificial” actors with “real” actors. Since 1995, the company has created innovative theatrical shows which they have performed throughout Italy and around the world. Teatrino Giullare is based in Sasso Marconi (Bologna) Italy.
