authorStaff Writer on Oct 6, 2024

The Lichtenstein Center Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing program at Stony Brook University will host an Open House and Writers Speak Reading event at the Stony Brook Southampton campus on Wednesday, October 16, from 6 to 8 p.m.

This event will provide prospective students and the public with a unique opportunity to explore the program and experience the creativity of its students and faculty. The Open House will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. at Chancellors Hall on the Stony Brook Southampton Campus. It will be followed by a special reading in the Rakoff Studio featuring acclaimed author Maya Shanbhag Lang.

During the Open House, attendees will be able to meet with program faculty and learn about the curriculum, get insights into the admissions process and financial aid opportunities, connect with current MFA students to gain a firsthand perspective on the program and explore the community of creative writers at Stony Brook.

At 7 p.m., Writers Speak will feature Maya Shanbhag Lang, author of “What We Carry,” named a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice and a “Best of 2020” by Amazon, Bookshop.Org, “Good Morning America,” PopSugar, Platform Magazine, Bustle and others. She is also the author of “The Sixteenth of June,” a modern reinterpretation of James Joyce’s “Ulysses,” long listed for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize and named a must-read novel by CBS and InStyle.

This event is free and open to the public. The Stony Brook Southampton campus is at 239 Montauk Highway in Southampton.
