Andromeda's Sisters' Arts And Advocacy Gala Is June 26

authorStaff Writer on Jun 8, 2021

Neo-Political Cowgirls, an East End organization created in 2007 for women in theater to help increase the female voice in the narrative of society’s stories, will present its annual fundraiser, “Andromeda’s Sisters: An Arts and Advocacy Gala” on Saturday, June 26, at 5 p.m. at the Leiber Collection Museum in East Hampton. The event will also be livestreamed on Zoom.

This signature event will include a reading of “Order My Steps,” a one-act play by Kathryn Grant about a prison inmate who reunites with her estranged adult daughter. The reading will be directed by Florencia Lozano and Neo-Political Cowgirls’ founding artistic director, Kate Mueth. It will star Catherine Curtin (“Homeland,” “Stranger Things,” “Orange Is The New Black”) and Irene Sofia Lucio (Broadway’s “Slave Play,” and “Wit”).

“Order My Steps” was seen at The Actors Studio Playwrights and Directors Unit and will be adapted into a short film to go into production in the fall. The play reading will be followed by a social justice and advocacy discussion on the experience of freedom with Alexis McGill Johnson, the president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America; Serena Ligouri, the founder of The New Hour, an organization based in Long Island that helps women coming out of incarceration; and novelist and editor Angie Cruz, the author of “Dominicana.”

Tickets to “Andromeda’s Sisters: An Arts & Advocacy Gala” are $125 to $250 for in-person attendance ($25 suggested donation for remote livestream) at npcowgirls.org. Leiber Collection Museum is at 446 Old Stone Highway in East Hampton. All funds raised will directly support the theater work and arts education outreach of the Neo-Political Cowgirls.
