In the weeks ahead, the Leiber Collection will host “Animated by Art,” a marionette-making workshop series led by master marionette artist Kim Profaci. The immersive, four-part series will take place Sundays, July 20 and 27, and August 3 and 17, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Participants will explore the art of puppetry through hands-on sessions that blend fine art, fashion, and performance. The cost of the full series is $300.

Workshop Schedule:

July 20: Create Your Marionette: Design and build a marionette inspired by Gerson Leiber’s fashion paintings and Judith Leiber’s whimsical handbags.

July 27: Costume Creation: Design a custom costume to reflect your marionette’s personality using fabric, color, and flair.

August 3: Movement Magic: Learn basic techniques for marionette manipulation and expressive movement.

August 17: Showcase Presentation: Present your marionette and its story in a final community showcase.

The program will be held at the Leiber Collection’s museum and sculpture garden, located at 446 Old Stone Highway in East Hampton. Space is limited and registration is required by contacting Ann Fristoe Stewart at info@leibercollection.org or visit leibercollection.org.
