author on Jan 26, 2010

Aspiring young artists from kindergarten through high school will showcase their work in the annual Student Art Festival at Guild Hall in East Hampton, featuring two exhibitions of colorful, creative and innovative works by East End students.

The kindergarten through eighth grade show opens on Saturday, January 30, with a reception and arts and crafts activities in the museum’s Boots Lamb Education Center from 2 to 4 p.m. The high school art show opens to the public on March 13, with the reception for students and their families and teachers held on March 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. The date and announcement for the screenings of the winners of the Student Film Project are still to be determined. The high school art exhibition runs through April 11.

The Student Art Festival and The Student Film Project are funded in part by Bridgehampton National Bank. Admission is free.

“For 18 years, the Student Art Festival has helped nurture and encourage young talent on the East End,” Guild Hall Executive Director Ruth Appelhof said in a statement. “This exhibition celebrates the artistic pursuits of young people by exhibiting their work in a museum environment, and salutes their teachers who cultivate and inspire the creative process.”

More than 5,000 students from 11 participating public and private schools are invited to participate. The exhibitions feature a variety of media, including painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, mobiles, photography and mixed media. For information about the Student Art Festival, call Melissa Erb at 324-0806, or e-mail merb@guildhall.org.
