The Art Center at Duck Creek will present a special concert featuring Tomoki Sanders (Quintet) on Thursday, July 18, at 6 p.m.
Rising star Tomoki Sanders, who uses they/them pronouns, was born in New York City, is the child of the legendary saxophonist Pharoah Sanders, and a multi-instrumentalist, producer and artist who defies categorization. Their music blends vapor wave, fusion, jazz, and hip-hop, infused with elements of digital production. Sanders started playing drums and percussions at the age of 4, and is a 2018 graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, having studied performance and music production with world-renowned musicians, such as Ralph Peterson Jr., Billy Kilson, Neal Smith, Tia Fuller, George Garzone, Frank Tiberi, Jackie Beard, Divo Giovani, Shannon LeClaire, Dave Santoro, Ed Tomassi, Jim Odgren and more. They have performed alongside musicians like Kassa Overall, Ravi Coltrane, Maurice “Mobetta” Brown and others.
This concert promises a captivating exploration of sound, pushing the boundaries of contemporary jazz. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a beach chair and a picnic to enjoy the evening under the stars. In case of rain, the concert will be moved to the ACDC’s barn, with limited seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Art Center at Duck Creek is at 127 Squaw Road in East Hampton. Admission is free, but space is limited, so arrive early. Visit duckcreekarts.org for details.
