Artist Eric Dever to Give Talk at “The Artist’s View”

Exhibiting artist Eric Dever will lead a gallery talk on April 21 at 6 p.m. on “Parrish Perspectives: New Works in Context,” showcasing 70 works from the more than 300 acquisitions added to the museum’s collection in the last four years at the Water Mill museum.

The exhibition, on view from March 12 through April 23 is organized into four themes: “Representing Abstraction,” “Humor and Irony,” “Horizon Lines,” and “Face to Face.” Presented in “Representing Abstraction,” Mr. Dever’s work “NSIBTW50” was a gift to the Museum from Christine Berry, marking his debut as a Parrish collection artist.

“It’s always amazing to look at paintings through the eyes of an artist, especially one as thoughtful and articulate as Eric,” the Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator, Alicia Longwell said. “I know it will be a wonderful evening with plenty of time for questions and conversation.”

Born in Los Angeles, Mr. Dever moved to New York in 1986 to study painting at New York University. His work is currently on view in the U.S. Embassy, Hong Kong, and was recently featured in the lecture “American Art and India: Cultural Exchange Among Artists of India and the United States,” by art historian and curator, Gail Levin.

“The exhibition itself presents a masterful conversation between artworks,” Mr. Dever said. “I look forward to highlighting these relationships, while examining content, abstraction, media and technology, and the broadening of the Museum’s collection.”
