Artist Thomas Deininger will be joined in conversation by The Church co-founder and “The Ark” curator, Eric Fischl on August 9 at The Church.
Thomas Deininger graduated from Salve Regina University with the Art Departmental award in 1992. He spent his twenties traveling the world painting and surfing. It was during these explorations that Deininger developed thoughts about American consumerism and the negative environmental impacts associated with these lifestyles and habits. His large-scale mosaics, sculptures and installations were a response to the ways in which consumer cultures threaten our natural environment and undermine the value of spiritual and social engagement. He works across a wide variety of mediums and styles and has exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the world.
Deininger, whose art is a direct response to consumer culture and a call to action toward social-spiritual responsibility and evolution, will talk with Fischl about Deininger’s work “Pigeon on the Giacometti,” 2024, which is included in “The Ark” exhibition, and will dive into Deininger’s creative process, his use of found objects and how his work advances his values. Following the discussion the audience is invited to a Q&A with the artist and curator.
Thomas Deininger will be in discussion with Eric Fischl on Saturday, August 9, at 4 p.m. at The Church, 48 Madison Street, Sag Harbor. Tickets are $25 ($20 for members). For more information and to purchase tickets, visit thechurchsagharbor.org.
