The Suffolk will present “Artrageous,” a one-of-a-kind interactive art and music experience, on Friday, October 24, at 8 p.m.

Known for blending live painting, music, dance, puppetry and audience participation into a single performance, “Artrageous” has evolved from its origins as a street performance troupe in the 1980s to a globally touring act. The group formed in Kitsilano, British Columbia, and began as a nonprofit children’s theater troupe, traveling across North America in a retrofitted school bus with just $80 to their name.

Over the decades, the troupe has overcome extraordinary challenges — including the loss of their theater and all belongings in a fire — and reinvented themselves to become a dynamic, multi-disciplinary ensemble of artists, musicians, dancers and puppeteers.

Now, “Artrageous” creates high-energy performances designed to inspire creativity and celebrate the arts. Audience members are invited on stage to participate in the show, as the troupe paints live masterpieces, performs original music, and delivers a visually and emotionally engaging experience.

Often compared to the Blue Man Group for its innovative style and immersive staging, “Artrageous” aims to showcase the power of teamwork, imagination and artistic expression. The group has performed for notable audiences including General Colin Powell, the Tuskegee Airmen, Harrison Ford and LeBron James.

Tickets are $39 to $69 at thesuffolk.org. The Suffolk is located at 118 East Main Street, Riverhead.
