The Hampton Theatre Company will hold auditions this month for five roles (three male, two female) in a new production of “Strictly Murder” by Brian Clemens. Directed by Mary Powers, the production opens March 7 and runs through March 24. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin on Monday, January 29.
Auditions for union and nonunion performers will be by appointment from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, and from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 30, at the Quogue Community Hall, 125 Jessup Avenue, Quogue
A crackerjack murder mystery, “Strictly Murder” is set in Provence, France during April 1939, where an English couple, Peter and Suzy, are living in idyllic isolation, far from the rumblings of the coming war. Their peace is shattered when Suzy discovers she’s been betrayed: Peter is not the man he claims to be, and in fact may be a ruthless killer on the run. When a Scotland Yard detective arrives, events become even more complicated and frightening. Lies, subterfuge and murder make this fast-paced thriller a dark and disturbing roller coaster of bluff … and double bluff.
Available roles include:
Peter Meredith: 30-49, English, educated and attractive, but restless to the point of being paranoid. Lives in a remote farmhouse with his young companion, Suzy, and makes ends meets by selling paintings to tourists.
Suzy Hinchcliffe: Young (20s), English, Peter’s waifish companion. Works at a nearby hotel. Enjoys her idyllic life with Peter but is increasingly disturbed by his furtive behavior.
Josef: 40-60, scruffy and rough-hewn. Peter and Suzy’s rural neighbor, more than a little daffy and dangerous, given his affinity for showing up uninvited and brandishing firearms.
Ross/Male Voice (OS): English, middle-aged, urbane. He has a mysterious official agenda, as well as a twin brother (played by the same actor). Note: German accent required for offstage radio announcements (British and German).
Miriam Miller: 40s, English. Ross’s colleague. Self-assured and confident.
