Auditions for Terrence McNally’s ‘It’s Only a Play’

authorStaff Writer on Mar 27, 2024

Boots on the Ground Theater will host auditions for Terrence McNally’s “It’s Only a Play” on Saturday, May 4, at 4 p.m. and Sunday, May 5, at 6 p.m. at Southampton Cultural Center. Actors will be asked to read from the script.

The production will be presented at SCC from October 18 to November 3.

“It’s Only a Play” takes the audience into the apartment of a neophyte Broadway producer and an entourage of actors, the director and playwright who all await the first review of their opening night performance. Filled with witty repartee, celebrity name dropping and scathing pokes at theater folks and their egos, get ready for a fun and edgy night of theater.

Bob Kaplan will direct McNally’s classic comedy about the world he inhabited for more than a half-century. Regarded as the “bard of American theater” and one of our greatest playwrights, McNally’s credits include “Ragtime,” “Master Class,” “Kiss of the Spider Woman” and many more. Boots on the Ground will take time to explore McNally’s deep ties to the East End with his widower and the theater’ s longtime friend, Tom Kirdahy.
