Auditions slated for Cuckoo's Nest" in Quogue"

author on Jan 7, 2010

The Hampton Theatre Company will hold open auditions for “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” by Dale Wasserman, from the novel by Ken Kesey, on Sunday, January 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday, January 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Quogue Community Hall on Jessup Avenue in Quogue. The high-energy classic tale of the wily Randle P. McMurphy and his band of colorful fellow inmates wreaking havoc at a mental institution contains roles for 13 men and four women. All roles are open and both union and non-union actors are invited to attend.

The characters are: Randle P. McMurphy (30s-50s), a larger than life, high testosterone new arrival in the mental ward; Nurse Ratched (30s-40s), chief nurse on the ward, angelically lovely, cold and merciless; Chief Bromden (30s-50s), a giant of a Native American who feels very small; Billy Bibbit (20s-30s), a stuttering and very timid boy; five other inmates (30s-60s); two prostitutes (20s-40s); a timid nurse (20s-30s); three aides; a doctor and technician.

Rehearsals for “Cuckoo’s Nest” will begin in early February, with performances running from March 25 though April 11. Sarah Hunnewell directs.

Readings will be from the script. No monologue or appointment is necessary. For more information, e-mail hamptontheatre@optonline.net or call 631-726-4656.
