Winner, 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Autobiography, “Barbarian Days: a Surfing Life” is William Finnegan’s memoir of an obsession, a complex enchantment with surfing: a beautiful addiction, a demanding course of study, a morally dangerous pastime, a way of life. On Wednesday, June 14, at 6 p.m., Montauk Library will present Finnegan speaking about his book followed by a Q&A. Copies of “Barbarian Days” will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Friends of the Montauk Library.

Raised in California and Hawaii, Finnegan has chased waves all over the world. In addition to “Barbarian Days,” he is also the author of “Cold New World,” “A Complicated War,” “Dateline Soweto” and “Crossing the Line.” He has twice been a National Magazine Award finalist and won numerous journalism awards, including two Overseas Press Club awards since 2009. A staff writer at The New Yorker since 1987, he lives in Manhattan.

His talk is free and open to the public. Registration is suggested at 631-668-3377 or visit montauklibrary.org/calendar. Montauk Library is 871 Montauk Highway. Montauk.
