The Center Stage at the Southampton Cultural Center will be transformed into a house of ill repute starting this weekend when “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” stages.
Directed by Michael Disher and music director Karen Hochstedler, the musical comedy, inspired by the real-life Chicken Ranch in La Grange, Texas, will run Thursday through Sunday, from October 17 through November 3.
The cast includes Valerie diLorenzo, Daniel Becker and Bill Kitzerow in the leads and Richard Adler, Lynda Aydinian, Tony D’Alessio, Bethany Dellapolla, Adam Fronc, Richard Gardini, Barbara Jo Howard, Hailey Kohlus, John Leonard, Joan Lyons, Sabrina Manglaviti, Marc Rix, Thomas Rosante, Amy Rowland, Emily Selyukova, Lon Shomer, Robert Stafford, Josephine Wallace, Thomas Wheeler, Edna Winston and Susan Wojcik in supporting roles.
Musical numbers include: “20 Fans,” “Lil Ole Bitty Pissant Country Place,” “24 Hours of Lovin’,” “The Aggie Song,” “The Sidestep” and “Hard Candy Christmas.”
The original Broadway production ran for more than 1,500 performances at the 46th Street Theatre in New York and garnered Tony Awards for the leads. A subsequent touring revival starred Ann Margret and the film adaptation starred Dolly Parton, Burt Reynolds and Charles Durning.
The Southampton Cultural Center show stages on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m., through November 3. Tickets are $25 and the student rate (under 21 with ID) is $12. Group rates are available. For reservations, call 287-4377 or visit scc-arts.org.
