ZIMA! Is Coming
Bundle up and come search for mythological gods, goddesses, creatures and fantastical visions during The Neo-Political Cowgirls’ annual production of “ZIMA!” on Saturday, February 3, at the Montauk County Park.
Starting at 1 p.m., groups move through every 15 minutes, starting an hour-long journey that ends with music and hot cocoa. The last group will depart at 2:15 p.m.

HIFF Announces February Line-Up
East End winter can be hard, but the Hamptons International Film Festival is trying to make it a bit more bearable.
Its “Now Showing” series continues through the month of February, starting with “The Other Side of Hope” on Sunday, February 4, at 1 p.m. at Bay Street Theater, located at 1 Bay Street in Sag Harbor. Directed by Aki Kaurismäki, the film provides a narrative look at the current refugee crisis and how lives can be impacted.
“Novitiate,” directed by Maggie Betts, will follow a young girl entering the convent during the 1960s Vatican II regime on Saturday, February 10, at 6 p.m. at Guild Hall, located at 158 Main Street in East Hampton. The series continues with Ziad Doueiri’s “The Insult” on Sunday, February 18, at 1 p.m. at Bay Street Theater; Academy Award-nominated shorts on Saturday, February 24, at various times throughout the day at Bay Street Theater; and Alfred Hitchcock’s classic “Strangers on a Train” on Saturday, February 24, at 7 p.m., followed by a post-screening conversation with Alec Baldwin and David Nugent.

Jazz! Live From The SAC
The Southampton Arts Center will kick off its 2018 season with The Jam Session’s “Keeping Live Jazz ALIVE,” an all-star concert benefiting the Jazz Foundation of America’s “Keyed Up!” program on Saturday, February 3.
“Jazz is an eclectic gumbo of world cultures born in the giant melting pot of the United States,” series organizer Claes Brondal said. “This style of music is truly timeless, continuously evolving and appealing to kids of all ages. ‘Keeping Live Jazz ALIVE’ will shine a bright light on jazz and showcase world-class musicians in their natural environment before a live audience.”
The concert will feature Ray Anderson on trombone, Claire Daly on baritone saxophone, Jay Rodriguez on tenor saxophone, Morris Goldberg on alto saxophone, Diego Urcola on trumpet, Santi Debriano on bass, Bill O'Connell on piano, and Brondal himself on drums.
Doors open at 6 p.m. for food and beverages from Bay Burger and Union Cantina, and the concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40.
“We can’t think of a better way to begin our 2018 season than with long-standing partners, The Jam Session. We have been working with them for nearly two years with great success, and they continue to provide the highest level of talent at every monthly concert,” Southampton Arts Center Director of Programs Amy Kirwin said. “To be able to benefit ‘Keyed Up!’ as well at this premiere concert is an added bonus for all of us.”

Ladd Brothers Explore Bond With Alan Shields
There is something about hearing an artist discuss a peer’s work that adds another element to it altogether — and the Parrish Art Museum knows that.
On Friday, February 2, the Water Mill museum — located at 279 Montauk Highway — will host “Artist to Artist: Steven and William Ladd on Alan Shields,” a gallery talk by the two brothers who use non-traditional materials like fabric, belts, beads, and paper in their own work. It gives them a unique connection with Shields, an artist who lived and worked on Shelter Island since the 1970s, and engaged with textiles and the needle arts throughout his career.
The Ladd brothers, who will share their personal and professional insights into the work, will give a tour of the gallery featuring “Alan Shields: Common Threads,” an exhibition of 13 pieces that span three decades of continuity in the use of yarn, thread, rickrack, machine stitching, beads and other materials.
“I’m excited to hear the Ladd brothers talk about Shields and how his work influenced their own work,” said Corinne Erni, senior curator of special projects and ArtsReach. “Artists often reveal much about themselves by talking about other artists as they shed light on a particular creative process.”

Writers Speak Wednesdays Returns
Author and Brooklyn Rail fiction editor Donald Breckenridge will be the first guest in the spring Writers Speak Wednesdays series of free author talks and readings on Wednesday, February 7, at 7 p.m. at Stony Brook Southampton.
In addition to being the fiction editor of the Brooklyn Rail, Breckenridge is co-founder and co-editor of InTranslation, a venue for outstanding work in translation and a resource for translators, authors, editors and publishers seeking to collaborate. He has edited two fiction anthologies and has written four novels — the latest, “And Then,” a ghost story telling tales about those who come and go, and the marks they leave behind.
The spring series will also include poet Sam Sax on February 14; Judith Newman on February 21; Lee Clay Johnson on March 7; poet Jericho Brown on March 21; Daniel Alercón and Debora Kuan on April 18; Melissa Febos and Alex Gilvarry on April 25; and MFA students on May 2.
Each evening begins with a brief reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by a reading, Q&A and book signing starting at 7 p.m. in the Radio Lounge on the second floor of Chancellors Hall at Stony Brook Southampton, located at 239 Montauk Highway in Southampton.
