Sag Harbor Cinema announces a special advance screening of the new PBS documentary “Blake Edwards: A Love Story in 24 Frames” on August 23. Julie Andrews, Blake Edwards’s spouse and major artistic collaborator, will participate in a Q&A after the film.

“A big part of our year-round retrospective, ‘The Worlds of Julie Andrews’ was devoted to the creative partnership between Ms. Andrews and Blake Edwards. It is a joy to be able to host the sneak preview of a film that is a celebration of that partnership as well as a most deserved tribute to one of the true masters of American film. We are very grateful to American Masters and PBS for this opportunity. The fact that part of the documentary was shot at Sag Harbor Cinema, will make the screening even more special” said SHC’s Artistic Director Giulia D’Agnolo Vallan.

Directed by Danny Gold and featuring never-before-seen archival video and stills, “Blake Edwards: A Love Story in 24 Frames” offers an exploration into the filmmaker’s complex life and genre-spanning career, as shared by filmmakers and family. Edwards’s story is further illuminated through interviews with devoted family members, fans and those who had worked with him, including wife Julie Andrews, children Jennifer and Geoffrey Edwards, Lesley Ann Warren (“Victor/Victoria”), Bo Derek (“10”), Rob Marshall, Patton Oswald, Rian Johnson and more.

Born in 1922, an artistically minded young Blake Edwards began his Hollywood career as an actor but quickly pivoted to writing and directing. While Edwards redefined slapstick comedy through a lens that still resonates with today’s directors and actors, he was influential across many genres, including dramas, detective films, musicals and even Broadway theater productions.

Edwards is remembered fondly by those who knew him. Or as Andrews herself puts it, “I don’t think I ever met a man as charismatic, as wicked, as funny, as vulnerable, as angry at times, as adorable and sweet as Blake.”

The screening of “Blake Edwards: A Love Story in 24 Frames” will take place on Friday, August 23, at 6 p.m. Tickets are available online, along with more information about the event, at sagharborcinema.org. Sag Harbor Cinema is at 90 Main Street, Sag Harbor.
