Grammy-nominated organist Brian Charette will bring his powerhouse quartet to The Church on Friday, August 8, at 6 p.m., as part of the Hamptons JazzFest.
Charette is recognized as one of the most inventive Hammond B-3 players of his generation, seamlessly blending the classic soul jazz traditions of legends like Jimmy Smith and Larry Young with cutting-edge influences from electronica, funk and experimental sounds. His approach reinvigorates the organ jazz tradition with fresh, swinging energy and inventive textures.
Joining him, will be tenor saxophonist Joel Frahm and guitarist Sheryl Bailey. Frahm brings a rich tone and fearless improvisation to the ensemble. He has worked with top jazz artists such as Brad Mehldau, Betty Carter and Jane Monheit and is known for his melodic clarity and spontaneous creativity. Bailey, hailed as one of the most compelling jazz guitarists of her era, infuses the group with virtuosic technique and a deep bluesy swing. Bailey has led acclaimed projects and taught at prestigious institutions like Berklee College of Music.
The rhythm section often features longtime collaborators like drummer Jordan Young, whose dynamic playing adds high-energy grooves and sharp interplay. Together, the Brian Charette Quartet presents performances filled with infectious rhythms, rapid-fire exchanges and moments of lyrical beauty, offering a modern take on organ jazz that honors its roots while pushing boundaries.
Tickets are $30 ($25 for members, $15 for ages 8 to 18) at thechurchsagharbor.org. The Church is at 48 Madison Street in Sag Harbor.
