The Peconic Land Trust’s Bridge Gardens in Bridgehampton and Madoo Conservancy in Sagaponack have teamed up to present a four-part winter lecture series beginning on Sunday, January 24, that will feature leading experts in the areas of horticulture, lighting and design.
Offered once a month from January through April on Sundays at 1 p.m., the lectures, followed by refreshments, will be hosted by Rick Bogusch, garden manager at Bridge Gardens, and Madoo Conservancy Director Alejandro Saralegui.
In the first lecture of the series, Vincent A. Simeone, director of Planting Fields Arboretum, will speak on “The Wonders of the Winter Landscape” at 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 24, at Bridge Gardens, 36 Mitchell Lane, Bridgehampton.
Mr. Simeone has worked in the horticultural field for more than 20 years. He received an AAS degree in ornamental horticulture from SUNY Farmingdale and a BS in ornamental horticulture from the University of Georgia. While at Georgia, he studied under well-known professors Dr. Michael Dirr and Dr. Allan Armitage. Drawing on his specialized expertise in woody plant identification, culture, use and selection of superior varieties of trees and shrubs, Mr. Simeone is an experienced lecturer, instructor and horticultural consultant.
He has spoken to many groups nationwide and has appeared on several garden shows, including on HGTV and “Martha Stewart Living.” Currently working in public horticulture, managing Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park in New York, he is also a horticultural consultant. He has written gardening articles for newspapers and horticulture magazines and has four published gardening books, including “Great Flowering Landscape Shrubs,” “The Wonders of the Winter Landscape,” “Great Flowering Landscape Trees” and “Great Landscape Evergreens.”
The fee for each lecture is $25, or $20 for Bridge Gardens/Madoo Conservancy members. The full series discount is $70, or $65 for members. For reservations and information, call the Peconic Land Trust at 631-283-3195.
