The Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival will present “Sublime Laments” on Sunday, August 10, at 6 p.m. at the Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church.
The program journeys from Classical elegance to Romantic depth. Johann Nepomuk Hummel’s “Septet No. 1 in D minor,” Op. 74, opens the evening with vibrant textures and lively interplay. British composer Huw Watkins’s “Lament for Horn and Piano” follows, a poignant meditation on loss that balances tenderness and rage. The concert concludes with Johannes Brahms’s “Piano Quartet No. 3 in C minor,” Op. 60, known as the “Werther Quartet” — a passionate, emotionally charged work inspired by Goethe’s “The Sorrows of Young Werther.”
Performers for the concert include Marya Martin (flute), James Austin Smith (oboe), David Byrd-Marrow (horn), David McCarroll (violin), Cong Wu (viola), Brannon Cho (cello), Nina Bernat (bass), David Fung (piano) and Shai Wosner (piano). The performance will last approximately one hour and 20 minutes with no intermission.
Tickets are $75, $50 and $10 for students. The concert will take place at Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church, located at 2429 Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton. For more information and tickets, visit.bcmf.org.
