On Sunday, February 27, at 2 p.m., The Church in Sag Harbor will host the next offering in the Reflections on Music series with “Reflections on Debussy” a performance by composer-pianist Bruce Wolosoff. The intimate Sunday afternoon piano performance and conversation will provide an insider’s look at some of the most popular works for piano by one of his personal favorite composers, Claude Debussy.

“Debussy found inspiration for his music in paintings, in poetry, in other music, and in the natural world around him,” Wolosoff said. “I can think of no better subject for a Reflections program, and no better place to present this program than The Church in Sag Harbor.”

Reflections in Music is a non-profit organization based in New York City and the East End whose mission is to bring in new audiences to classical music by presenting unusual and intriguing musical programs that often combine music with other art forms. In the fall of 2020, Bruce Wolosoff, whose work as a composer has included musical composition inspired by works of art and other interdisciplinary collaborations, assumed the role of executive and artistic director.

Reflections presents interdisciplinary performances of solo and chamber music held in both traditional and non-traditional spaces, equally curious about the historical and cultural contexts of older works as those of recent creations and exploring, through performance and conversation with artists and creators, the inspiration that one art form may provide another: how a painting might be reflected in a piece of music, or vice versa. Over the years, the series has showcased the work of artists whose disciplines span classical music, the visual arts, literature, dance, and more. Proof of vaccination and masks will be required to enter The Church, which is at 48 Madison Street, Sag Harbor. For more information visit thechurchsagharbor.org.
