“Buckingham” by Tina Andrews will be performed at the Southampton Cultural Center for seven performances, beginning with opening night on Friday, May 3, at 7 p.m.
The play is about the life of Queen Charlotte Sophia, who was forced to hide her Moorish features and skin tone under heavy white Elizabethan make-up before her arranged marriage to “mad” King George III. Since they married by proxy, the king did not discover her true ethnicity until their wedding night.
The cast includes: Parisa Fitz-Henley, Seth Hendricks, Matthew F. O’Conner, Vay David, Alexandra Cohen-Spiegler, Adam Fronc, Thandiwe Thomas De Shazor, Neyssan Falahi, Tony D’Alessio and Ingrid Griffith.
The show will stage again on Saturday, May 4, at 8 p.m., Sunday, May 5, at 2:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, May 10 and 11, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 12, at 2:30 p.m. A reception and talk back with Ms. Andrews will be held after the opening night performance.
Tickets are $22 general admission and $12 for students under 21. Reservations can also be made at scc-arts.org. The first 100 online ticket purchasers will receive a signed, free copy of Ms. Andrews’s book “Charlotte Sophia.”
