Wayne Alan Wilcox — known for his roles in “Gilmore Girls,” “Rent” and “The Normal Heart” — will lead the cast of “Fellow Travelers” as Arthur Miller in the world premiere of “Fellow Travelers,” opening May 29 at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor.
The new play by Jack Canfora, directed by Michael Wilson, will also star Vince Nappo as Elia Kazan, Rachel Spencer Hewitt as Marilyn Monroe, Mark Blum as Harry Cohn, and Jeffrey Bean as Roy Brewer/Kermit Bloomgarden.
“We are thrilled to welcome such an exceptional team of artists to Bay Street for the world premiere of Jack Canfora’s ‘Fellow Travelers,’” Bay Street Theater Artistic Director Scott Schwartz said in a press release. “This play is about giants of the stage and screen, larger-than-life personalities who made great art and a great impact on our American culture. It is a searing portrait of extraordinary people struggling with the politics of their time and their love for one another, and I can’t wait to see how this cast and creative team brings their story to vivid life.”
Set during Hollywood’s notorious blacklist period, “Fellow Travelers” explores the complicated relationship between three American icons — director Elia Kazan, writer Arthur Miller, and actress Marilyn Monroe — and looks behind the glitter and glamour of the Silver Screen and Broadway to see how the politics of the McCarthy era affected their friendship, and how their friendship affected their work.
Performances will be held most Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays and Tuesdays at 7 p.m., and Wednesdays at 2 and 7 p.m., through June 17. “Talkback Tuesdays” with members of the cast will be held on Tuesdays, June 5 and 12, immediately following the performances. Tickets will range from $40 to $125. For more information, please call 631-725-9500 or visit baystreet.org.
