The Suffolk will welcome back “A Bronx Tale,” the acclaimed one-man show written and performed by Chazz Palminteri, on Sunday, August 17, at 8 p.m.
Originally written in 1988, “A Bronx Tale” draws from Palminteri’s childhood in the Bronx, including his experience witnessing a gangland killing at age nine. In the powerful solo performance, he portrays 18 characters — friends, enemies, and family — bringing his coming-of-age story vividly to life on stage.
After its Los Angeles premiere in 1989, Palminteri famously turned down numerous offers from major film studios that sought to buy the rights — unless he could write the screenplay and play the lead role. That decision led to a career-defining collaboration with Robert De Niro, who directed and co-starred in the 1993 film adaptation.
Palminteri went on to write the book for the Broadway musical version, becoming the only person in history to write and star in the one-man play, the film, and the stage musical of the same title.
In addition to “A Bronx Tale,” Palminteri has appeared in more than 60 films, including “The Usual Suspects,” “Analyze This,” “Mulholland Falls,” “Jade,” “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints,” “Legend,” and “Bullets Over Broadway,” for which he earned an Academy Award nomination. His television credits include “Modern Family,” “Godfather of Harlem,” “Law & Order” and “Gravesend.”
Tickets range from $89 to $129, plus fees. The Suffolk is located at 118 East Main Street in Riverhead. For tickets and more information, visit thesuffolk.org.
