Choral Society Auditions

authorStaff Writer on Sep 23, 2022

The Choral Society of the Hamptons will hold auditions in early October for singers interested in joining the group prior to the next concert on Sunday, December 4. The Choral Society primarily rehearses at the Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church and the December concert will be held there as well.

The winter concert will be directed by Walter Klauss and will feature J. S. Bach’s “Nun Komm, der Heiden Heiland,” Vaughan Williams’s “Fantasia on Christmas Carols,” Gerald Finzi’s “In Terra Pax” and Dieterich Buxtehude’s “Befiehl dem Engel, Dass Er Komm” (Command Thine Angel, That He Come). The concert will feature the South Fork Chamber Orchestra and professional soloists.

Prospective singers are invited to be guests at the first rehearsal on October 3 and audition prior to the second or third rehearsal on October 10 or 17. Familiarity with musical notation is helpful, but not always essential.

Interested singers are invited to call the Choral Society’s administrative director, Maria Fumai Dietrich, 631-204-9402, or email info@choralsocietyofthehamptons.org for an appointment to audition.

Founded in 1946, the Choral Society of the Hamptons, with a repertoire of music by all the great choral composers, attracts members from across the East End. The chorus has performed as far away as the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and in New York City at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, and for the annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony in Rockefeller Center. To further encourage choral music, the society gives scholarships for musical training to talented singers in local schools. At this time, the Choral Society is also conducting a search to fill the position of music director.

On Saturday, May 24, at 4 p.m., Jaime T.
