The Clothesline Art Sale has been one of the most beloved and affordable art traditions in the Hamptons since its inception in 1946, putting “fine art within reach” while showcasing the abundant creative talent in our region.
This year, it has a slightly new look.
For the first time, the annual event will kick off with a preview cocktail party on Friday, July 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the East Hampton museum, located at 158 Main Street.
“Experience a rare special preview of this storied art sale while supporting Guild Hall. Guests will meet and mingle with fellow art enthusiasts while enjoying wine and light fare,” according to a press release. “Relax, unwind, and see the sale in a whole new light.”
Each year, more than 400 artists participate, filling the walls and grounds of Guild Hall with media of all kinds that, on Saturday, July 28, will include the inaugural Makers Market in the Cheryl and Michael Minikes Garden — highlighting previously excluded categories of functional art, such as jewelry, accessories and hand knits.
The sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is free. Participation in the sale is open to all artists; visit guildhall.org to see the guidelines for submitting work. Drop-off dates are Thursday, July 26, and Friday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All art sales are split 50/50 between the artist and Guild Hall.
