CNN Anchor And Sag Harbor Resident Don Lemon Speaks About His New Book

authorStaff Writer on Jun 8, 2021

The Social Justice Committee of Temple Adas Israel in partnership with The Church will welcome Don Lemon, host of CNN’s “Don Lemon Tonight,” home to Sag Harbor to talk about his book “This Is the Fire.” This book talk will take place on Sunday, June 13, at 10 a.m., with local historian Dr. Georgette Grier-Key moderating the discussion. This free event will be streamed live from The Church, but preregistration is required.

As America’s only Black prime-time anchor, Lemon’s daily monologues on racism and America’s systemic flaws speak for his millions of fans. Lemon was the leading voice on CNN guiding viewers through the death of George Floyd and a summer of nationwide protests and riots. Now, in an urgent, deeply personal riveting plea that weaves in some of his own experiences here on the East End, Lemon reveals how deep our problems lie and what we can do to begin to fix them. The sponsors of this event strongly believe that conversations such as this must be part of a continuing dialogue about racism in our own communities and across the country.

Dr. Grier-Key is the executive director of the Eastville Community Historical Society in Sag Harbor. She believes that in his book, Lemon “captured the pulse of what so many people are feeling but couldn’t find the words to express. Witnessing repeated traumatic racism and police killings was just so morally shocking and wrong, and this book helps spark the conversation and healing.”

“We must all commit to building bridges across our community to promote social justice, and this event represents an important segment in our ongoing educational programs on bigotry and hate,” added Andrea Klausner, co-chair of the Social Justice Committee.

Signed copies of Don Lemon’s book can be purchased from Canio’s Books, 290 Main Street, Sag Harbor. Contact 631-725-4926 or caniosbooks@verizon.net to order.

Preregistration is required at sagharborchurch.org.
