Since the days of Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, the community of Springs in East Hampton has been known for its artists. Pollock and de Kooning are gone, but the art tradition continues on.

The 52nd annual Springs Artists Invitational Exhibition runs Friday, August 2 to Sunday, August 11 at historic Ashawagh Hall. Curated by artist Peter Spacek, the opening reception will take place on Friday, August 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. On Sunday, August 4, Mr. Spacek conducts a curator’s tour from noon to 2 p.m. On Saturday, August 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Springs Improvement Society will also be hosting the annual Fisherman’s Fair at Ashawagh Hall.

Proceeds from these fund-raising events support the maintenance of Ashawagh Hall by Springs Improvement Society and the society’s scholarship program. Hours for the exhibition are Sunday to Friday, 1 to 5 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ashawagh Hall is located at 780 Springs-Fireplace Road, at the corner of Old Stone Highway in Springs, right up the road from where Pollock lived. How’s that for a legacy?
