‘Counterpart’ Opens at Ma’s House

authorStaff Writer on Jul 24, 2023

Ma’s House will present “Counterpart,” a group exhibition featuring six artists exploring identity and the self through the lens of relationships. An opening reception for the show will be held Saturday, July 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition will run through September 16.

Whether in relation to family, culture, community or to oneself, each artist shares a visual expression of the mirror and hidden aspects of the self. Exhibiting artists include Isabella Fernanda, Edward Gia, Julie Anne Lee, Jordan Ramsey Ismaiel, and Tiffany J Sutton.

As an extension of the indoor exhibition, artist Pauline Leilani Badamo will debut her new outdoor sculpture, “Ho’ohokukalani” which depicts the Hawaiian creation story through hand-blown glass and metal. Badamo shares this work as a hopeful beacon for those who have ever lost a child and are healing from loss.

An artist talk with Pauline Leilani Badamo will take place at Ma’s House on Sunday, September 10, from noon to 1 p.m. “Counterpart” is on view July 29 to September 16 at Ma’s House, which is located on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation, 159 Old Point Road, Southampton.
