The charitable Songwriters Share concert series will conclude its season on Friday, June 2, at the Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse of the South Fork in Bridgehampton with featured performer Dan Koontz, a Sag Harbor singer and pianist who will be accompanied by guitarist Brett King and drummer Bruce Beyer.
The series, curated by Nancy Remkus, invites songwriters to perform and share the inspiration behind their music, all while giving back to the East End community. The proceeds of each Songwriters Share concert are donated to a charity of the songwriter’s choice, and Mr. Koontz will play to benefit the Center for Therapeutic Riding of the East End in Sagaponack, which provides lessons and equine assisted activities to children and young adults with disabilities.
“I chose the Center for Therapeutic Riding because I heard about its work from a friend of mine who is involved with it and it seems like a wonderful way to help. And who doesn't like horses?” Mr. Koontz said.
Mr. Koontz is a founding member of the Rum Hill Rockers as well as Edna’s Kin. He has also made appearances performing in various local bands, such as the Hoodoo Loungers and the Lynn Blue Band. Through this involvement, Mr. Koontz has established himself as a regular in the East End music scene.
As a songwriter, Mr. Koontz is a diverse artist with genres ranging from blues to country to pop. When asked to perform for Songwriters Choice, Mr. Koontz was happy to oblige. “Since I'm usually playing as a sideman, I don't get many opportunities to play my own songs, so it'll be fun to do that and talk a little bit about writing them. It's such a great series and a great way to connect with an audience about the craft of writing songs,” he said.
The concert will begin at 8 p.m. followed by a reception and an opportunity to speak with Mr. Koontz and his musicians. Admission is $15.
