Diane Gentile Hits the Montauk Music Festival

authorStaff Writer on Apr 20, 2023

The 12th annual Montauk Music Festival runs May 18 through 21 at venues throughout the hamlet. Among them will be Diane Gentile of Diane and the Gentle Men who will return to Montauk to perform in a few shows during the festival. With a new album on the way that includes a single duet with Austin Songwriter Hall of Fame inductee Alejandro Escovedo, Gentile’s new album is titled “The Bad and the Beautiful” and she’ll be performing songs from the album at the festival as a three-piece, stripped down group with just keyboardist Rob Clores and guitarist James Mastro. The album is slated for release on August 18, and the first single “Walk With Me,” will be released on June 16. There are various special guests appearing on the album including James Maddock, Dave Immagluck (Counting Crows), Charlie Giordano (Bruce Springsteen), Ben Stivers and Danny Ray. The Gentle Men are Rob Clores, Jason Victor, James Mastro and Colin Brooks.

This will be Gentile’s second appearance at the Montauk Music Festival. She’s spent many summers in the Hamptons working to support herself through school, and when she heard about the festival, she gladly pursued this opportunity with the hopes of revisiting. Her previous album releases harken to the coastal area: “The White Sea,” and “Caught in a Wave,” respectively. On the newest, “The Bad and the Beautiful,” though a more citified album, you’ll still hear lyrics with that magical mist of a nautical environment.

Gentile has played the 30A Music Festival in Florida yearly and has toured both the U.S. and the UK supporting artists Jesse Malin, Tommy Stinson (of Replacements fame), dates with Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate), Chuck Prophet and others. She’ll be one of the many performers at the Opening Night Montauk Music Festival Party on May 18, at the Westlake Fish House and will appear at various other venues on May19 and May 21.
