Tripoli Gallery in Wainscott will present “Eat the Ice Cream Before It Melts,” the fourth solo exhibition with Judith Hudson, running June 21 to July 22. The opening reception will be held at the gallery on Friday, June 21, from 6 to 8 p.m.

“I know humans have a 100 percent mortality rate. I am in denial. Life is sweet, getting shorter, but I am determined to keep my sense of humor and go down trying,” said Hudson in an artist’s statement. “In these paintings, I use skeletons and spilled wine and leftovers and sex to talk about this absurd and precarious position we are all in. Sex is never just about sex. It is about life. The character in the paintings makes friends with the darkness and loss — dancing until she drops. Waltzing the rhumba.”

Judith Hudson (b. Glen Ridge, New Jersey) received her undergraduate degree in fine arts from the University of Colorado and went on to study at California College of Art, University of California at Berkeley, where she received her masters of fine arts. Her work has been included in solo and group exhibitions in New York City at MoMA PS1, The New Museum, The Bruce High Quality Foundation, Phillips de Pury & Co., Marlborough Gallery, The Drawing Center, Zürcher Studio and Salomon Contemporary, as well as locally at Ille Arts in Amagansett, The Fireplace Project in East Hampton, and the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill. Hudson has exhibited with Tripoli Gallery since 2012. In 2023, she participated in the gallery’s 19th Annual Thanksgiving Show. Hudson currently lives and works in Manhattan and Amagansett.

Tripoli Gallery is located at 26 Ardsley Road in Wainscott. Visit tripoligallery.com for details.
