With the invention of the keyboard strap and his single, “Frankenstein,” Edgar Winter helped revolutionize rock and roll, opening up a new world of possibility with the experimentation of sound.
That was 45 years ago, and the multi-instrumentalist is still going strong.
On Sunday, July 22, Winter and his band — Doug Rappoport on guitar, Koko Powell on bass and Jason Carpenter on drums, with the frontman on saxophone, keyboards, percussion and vocals — will perform at the Suffolk Theater in Riverhead.
“Edgar Winter, along with his brother Johnny, was one of the most popular, recognizable recording artists of the ’70s,” a press release said. “Technically proficient in every aspect of music, a prolific songwriter, and a master at stretching his skill and imagination, Edgar's music encompassed many genres of music, including rock, jazz, blues, and pop, that appealed to a wide range of music fans.”

With more than 20 albums and numerous collaborative efforts to his credit, Winter has made a lasting mark in the history of American recording artists — heard in no fewer than 15 film and television projects — and toured with Ringo Starr’s All Starr Band.
