The Sag Harbor Masonic Club will present artist Edward Cortes exhibiting his outsider art during the Roses Grove Music Show on Saturday, March 30, at 8 p.m. The Lodge will be open at 7 p.m. and by appointment to view the exhibit.

Ed Cortes (aka Edweirdeye) was born and raised in Southern California, a product of the latchkey kid era. A self-taught artist, he has lived on the East Coast for almost 30 years.

“I grew up among the junkies, prostitutes, gangsters and all the other off-beat characters that Hollywood could produce,” said Cortes in his artist statement. “Most of my painting is done on layers of plexiglass using acrylic and spray paints. My influence and inspiration comes from my childhood cartoons — lowbrow artists, Chicano/Latino culture, the punk metal scene and of the films of Ralph Bukshi/Crumb.”

Cortes has shown his work on the East End for the last decade. He has done private commissions, album covers and has a line of T-shirt’s featuring his work.

The Masonic Temple is located above the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum, 200 Main Street. For more information, visit masonicmusicseries.com.
