What started in a packed basement of the now closed Cameo Gallery in Brooklyn four years ago is now an event that travels the country and even the world, uniting those who still enjoy the rock, alternative and punk music scene of the late 1990s and the 2000s.
The event is called Emo Night Brooklyn and this summer, during its travels from city to city, it will be making a stop in Montauk at the Clam and Chowder House at Salivar’s Dock on Saturday, August 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. There is no cover for this event.
Green Day, Blink-182, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and Paramore are just some of the bands and artists that define an Emo Night Brooklyn event.
“We’re going to bring the party," wrote Emo Night Brooklyn co-founder, Ethan Maccoby, via email. "We love raging in new places, and an outdoor party in Montauk sounds incredible. We’re looking forward to bringing together groups of awesome people who love this music and like to party.”
According to Emonightbk.com, its founders Mr. Maccoby and Alex Badane were best friends “who grew up listening to music, going to shows and having some epic parties together.”
After throwing their first event at Cameo Gallery in 2015, they realized that it was one of the best nights of not only their lives, but the lives of those who came to the event, prompting it to become a “monthly staple” in New York.
Growing in its success and popularity, the event also attracts former band members like Ryan Key of Yellowcard and Jordan Pundik of New Found Glory to be guest DJs.
“It is amazing to see that this type of music doesn’t just have one or two big spots,” Mr. Maccoby wrote via email. “Alternative/emo/pop punk music is universally loved in all parts of the world by diverse groups of people. It’s also interesting to switch up what songs we play in different cities, since there are so many great bands particularly loved by a local scene.
“People everywhere also love to party and let loose.”
According to Hali Devlin, the manager of Clam and Chowder House at Salivar’s Deck, the event will be held on the rooftop deck.
Though the event was originally slated for 9 to 11 p.m., according to Mr. Maccoby the time was changed to 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. “due to outdoor music permits in Montauk.”
“GET READY TO PARTY,” Mr. Maccoby wrote. “No cover, let’s mosh, rage, scream and dance and have some fun. Oh and Tell All Your Friends.”
