Coco & Cat will host an artist reception for equine painter Suzanne Nielsen on Friday, November 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. The event will offer guests an opportunity to meet the artist and view her expressive work, which celebrates the grace, strength, and heart of horses.
“Some of my earliest memories are about the interaction of either horses or art,” Nielsen said. “Like so many, I became enamored by the grace and majesty of these incredible animals. I portray horses as I see their strengths — and at the center of it all, I hope you find their heart.”
A native of Pasadena, California, Nielsen began both riding and painting at the age of 5. She earned her fine art degree from California Polytechnic University in Pomona and continued her studies under master artists Glen Vilppu and Steve Huston. Her early career in the animation industry honed her understanding of anatomy, movement, and storytelling — elements that now define her work in paint and charcoal.
Now based in Chester, Vermont, Nielsen finds daily inspiration in her three huskies, local horses, and regional equestrian events. Her work was recently recognized as a finalist for the 2024 Hampton Classic Horse Show Poster.
The reception is free and open to the public. Coco & Cat is at 42 Snakehollow Road in Bridgehampton.
