Artist Eric Fischl, mainly known for his large-scale, naturalistic images of middle-class American life, has created a new interactive work at Guild Hall where the public is invited into the studio during gallery hours to create their own “paintings.” Titled “A Day at the Beach,” by using provided precut magnetic figures — or by making their own new figures — visitors can develop compositions that play with changing perspective, narrative and the history of painting.
“A Day at the Beach” will be accessible in the Boots Lamb Education Center from July 17 through September 2, during gallery hours, Friday to Monday, noon to 5 p.m. through June and, beginning in July, Wednesday to Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m. (until 7 p.m. on Friday). Museum admission is always free. Guild Hall is at 158 Main Street in East Hampton. Visit guildhall.org for details.
