The Victor D’Amico Institute of Art will launch its upcoming season with two new art exhibits at its respective locations —The Art Barge and The D’Amico Studio & Archive — on May 19, from 2 to 6 p.m. The openings take place on “Founders Day,” Victor D’Amico’s 120th birthday anniversary. The two exhibits will run through September.
The Art Barge exhibit “North/South/East/West” at 110 Napeague Road in Amagansett, is a photographic showcase of the 61 artists’ homes and studios that are members of The National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Historic Artists’ Homes & Studios program. The Victor D’Amico Institute of Art shares this recognition with other artists’ homes and studios in the area. East Hampton Town holds the largest concentration of recognized artists’ homes and studios in the United States.
The D’Amico House exhibit “The Sea, Sky and Sculpture: An Integration of Art, Architecture and Landscape” at 128 Shore Road in Amagansett, will feature outdoor sculpture in its garden. Curator Sally Richardson has selected local artists whose sculptures reflect the imaginative atmosphere of the D’Amico House and the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. Sculptural materials include wood, metal, textiles, stone and ceramics, and each work speaks to this unique and magical setting of Lazy Point.
