The Suffolk is ushering in the holiday season with a pair of Christmas‑movie screenings on Saturday, December 6: the family‑friendly comedy “Elf” at 3 p.m. followed by the not‑so‑family‑friendly cult‑classic “Violent Night” at 8 p.m.
“Elf” (2003) is a Christmas comedy that follows Buddy (Will Ferrell), a human raised by elves at the North Pole who journeys to New York City to find his biological father. Along the way, Buddy’s childlike enthusiasm and holiday spirit clash humorously with the cynical world around him. His journey ultimately brings warmth and Christmas cheer to everyone he meets. Complete with hot chocolate specials and small bites available to order throughout the movie, the film is holiday fun for the whole family!
“Violent Night” (2022) is a hilarious, action-packed holiday film where a disillusioned Santa Claus (David Harbour) trades milk and cookies for mayhem and carnage when he must save a wealthy family taken hostage by mercenaries (John Leguizamo) on Christmas Eve. When the criminals underestimate him, Santa unleashes his brutal combat skills to protect the innocent. Blending dark humor, gore and Christmas spirit, the movie delivers a jingle-belled ride filled with head-bashing ornaments and candy-cane combat that makes “Home Alone” look like a caroling session. The screening will include beer specials and small bites available to order.
Tickets for either film are $20 at thesuffolk.org. The Suffolk is at 118 East Main Street, Riverhead.
