Final theater camps for kids before school starts

author on Aug 25, 2009

In the waning days of their summer vacation, young people will have the opportunity to participate in two new summer workshops at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, Play ACTion and Intro to Improv, on September 1 and September 2, respectively.

Play ACTion on September 1 is an innovative day-long workshop for children age 9 to 11 that teaches participants all about theater games.
This program is specifically designed to draw out children’s creativity while helping them to develop performance skills. Participants will laugh
while they learn, creating characters and performing for one another
in a nurturing, ensemble environment.

Intro to Improv on September 2 is a fast-paced, day-long improvisation workshop for young people age 12 to 18 that teaches participants how to “think on their feet” in a theatrical context. While collaborating with one another in a non-competitive environment, students will learn the fundamentals of improv through games that will inspire both hilarity and creativity.

The two summer workshops have been sponsored by Rochelle and Bradley King, the Julia and Gilbert Merrill Foundation, the Edmond de Rothschild Foundation, the Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund, the Town of Southampton and Target.

For more information or to register, call Cheryl Wheeler at 631-288-2350, ext 102, e-mail cherylw@whbpac.org, stop in at the Westhampton Beach PAC at 76 Main Street, or visit www.whbpac.org.
