The Arts Center at Duck Creek will unveil a new ceramic relief work by Fitzhugh Karol as part of his ongoing site-specific exhibition, “On the Grounds,” with a reception and artist-led tour on Saturday, October 25, at 3 p.m.
The new ceramic reliefs depict a fantastical map of Duck Creek’s property, incorporating architectural elements, natural features and sculptures through impressions, cut forms and inscriptions. The work invites viewers to explore the landscape as a layered narrative.
“I make these ceramic reliefs to tell stories — it could be an interpretation of a myth or a fantastical map of some real or perceived environment,” Karol said. “This ceramic work for Duck Creek depicts its architecture as well as the sculptures on the grounds, along with stories, memories and fantasies.”
The outdoor exhibition remains on view through mid-December and features Karol’s large-scale sculptures installed throughout the property.
Karol will also speak at the Almond Artists & Writers Dinner on Monday, November 3, at Almond Restaurant in Bridgehampton. The evening includes a meal and salon-style conversation.
