In a setting that evokes the salons of Paris — young, award-winning, world-class musicians performing an intimate setting — pianists Arianna Körting and Robin Giesbrecht will sit side by side and play “four hands,” a type of duet made for one piano, not two, on Friday, October 13, at 6 p.m. at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill.
The recital opens with solo works before they join forces to perform “Petite Suite” by Claude Debussy, “16 Waltzes op. 39” from Johannes Brahms and Allegro in A minor, “Lebensstürme” (Storms of Life) by Franz Schubert — an impassioned piece that is among the most challenging of the composer’s duet works that requires a level of fluency, unified touch and tone that makes the duo’s playing indistinguishable from one another.
“Salon Series offers a casual environment to experience and enjoy classical and contemporary music by master musicians,” said museum director Terrie Sultan. “In fitting with the museum’s mission to illuminate the creative process, Salon Series performers engage in a dialogue with the audience, talking about their approach to interpretation and program selection.”
Admission is $25 and $10 for members. For more information, please call (631) 283-2118 or visit parrishart.org.
